After several years of inactivity, the Carr Creek Fish and Game Club was revived by the combined efforts of several residents of Knott County, including some of the early club members. The fish and game club is located just off Highway 160 in Brinkley of Knott County. A short drive takes you to a 60-acre range leased to the Carr Creek Fish and Game Club. The clubhouse has a meeting area, kitchen, and restroom facilities. A picnic area is located at the shelter and the pond. A trap house is available that is equipped for five shooters to be located at different angles.
The immediate mission of the club is to make improvements to the club’s property to include a black powder shoot, high-powered rifle range, trap house, pond, and more. The Club’s vice president Fairly Mullins said that a lot of young people were getting involved with the club and that is helping to revive the club.
“We are getting started and everybody is pitching in and helping. That is what it takes,” said Mullins.
Ranges accommodate rifle and bow. Plans are to build a pistol range for anybody to use. High-powered ranges are set up for 50 yards to 200 yards. Member Steve Richardson said the high- powered range is good for people to site rifles or use for entertainment.
Richardson said, “Our local people didn’t have a place to come shoot or site rifles. People might need to site rifles before elk hunting here or out west.”
Vice president of the club Fairly Mullins informed, “We will have our first event August 4th. It is a trap shoot open to the public. The cost is $10 per person and they should bring their own shells. We provide the traps and clay pigeons.”
One of the goals in reviving the fish and game club is to have something for all age groups. Mullins said, “We want to get set up to do what we can for our youth.”
The organization is nonprofit and it is hoped that funds can be obtained to stock the pond and make other improvements. Activities such as fishing tournaments are anticipated in the future.
The members want to keep the area as a family entertainment place. There is no alcohol allowed on the premises and no illegal drug use is permitted.
The committee would like to encourage new membership. A member can bring a friend one time and after that the person must be a paying member. All members get a key to the gate.
