Hello, readers — we hope all is well with everyone, but we do have many friends and neighbors that are dealing with serious health problems.
We hope you will remember these people in your prayers and all the others that we are unaware that have health problems. Garland Conley said he and J.B. Noble went to see Alonzo Combs in Central Baptist. He had five mini strokes and needs your prayers. His son Lonnie is doing better.
Samuel Gayheart is in serious condition. Teresa and Darrell Cornett, Normie Risner, Walter and Evelyn Davidson, Mary Alice Davidson, Sadie Compton and Boots Smith have all been sick and need prayers. Jerry Maggard gave me the prayer list and there are a lot of people in Knott County that are having problems. We hope you will remember them and all those in our hospitals and nursing homes.
Trena, Willis, Darlene and Mary Alice have been getting ready for Dinah’s wedding on the 23rd of this month. Darlene was coming in to take Mary Alice to have eye surgery. Grace Fugate looked good; she had been to the doctor with her daughter Vivian and Helen. Helen said she was very pleased with her get-well card from the community.
J. B. Ritchie called to let us know he and Sue would come back to the Center as soon as they get well. He said Les Dobson, age 93, goes and checks on his neighbors and family everyday. He said Jeff and Angie’s baby was doing good and that he was the prettiest baby he’s ever seen. Genvieve Combs was on Jerry’s prayer list too and we wish her a speedy recovery.
There have been a couple of homes that were broken into in the community so everyone needs to take precautions. Lots of people in the community have gone to video cameras to capture those that are doing the stealing.
As everyone knows, we are volunteering at the Center now to keep going all the good things we were doing here for the people. Wednesday it was snowing, so we didn’t have any activities. We did have fun night and had a good turnout. I would like to thank Helen, Martha June, Ruby, Lisa, Trena, Callie and Elaine for all the great desserts and food. Fun night has really picked up and everyone really enjoys it.
Randall Ritchie’s wife said her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Hayes, were doing good. Always enjoyed visiting with Bud when I worked at Leburn Post office.
We will continue to have our Wednesday dinners at 11 a.m. and Thursday fun nights at 6. Come and join us. Some new faces were Eddie and Reda Prater and Tracey Neice and Bob Hayes.
Knott County Central Patriots had a good showing at the state tournament. It seems like lots of people went because Hindman was deserted on Friday. James Catron and Garland Conley said there were a lot of good games. Garland was especially thrilled that he got to visit with his grandson that played for Fleming County, plus he sat beside of LeMaster that played for Kentucky. Congratulations to the Patriots, the cheerleaders and their parents.
Enjoyed visiting with everyone at the post office. Mike said his grandchildren have all had strep throat. We send them get well wishes.
Spring is almost here and before the trees bloom out look at the rocks behind Hindman Elementary. To me, that one looks like a duck! We have a lot of interesting rocks high on the mountains and it’s fun to figure out what they look like. It would make a good hiking trail for someone to see the rocks.
We would like to invite those that lost meals to visit the center. They are welcome to come get a dinner on Wednesday or supper on Thursday. If you can’t come, send a relative. We don’t want to see any of our citizens go without food.
Just heard from Layne Bates. She will be here Wednesday if at all possible. Barbara Smith had surgery on her shoulder so she won’t be able to cook now and we all wish her well.
This month’s birthday wishes go to Grace Fugate on the 14th, Jeff Messer on the 13th, Willis Slone on the 25th, Kenneth Short on the 22nd, Claude Slone on the 27th and Josie Cornett on the 31st. Happy Birthday wishes and may you be blessed with many more. I’ m a March baby. I had a wonderful birthday and appreciate all the wishes and gifts from family and friends. Special remembrance of Dallie Slone whose birthday was the 21st and my dad, whose birthday was the 18th. I’ ve missed my birthdays with him.
To our readers, friends and neighbors, get the gardens ready — planting season will soon be here. Have a great week and be a good neighbor!
