Signs promote Hindman tourism

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has announced plans to put up new signs to promote tourism to historic attractions in Hindman.

These Cultural and Recreational brown signs are intended to encourage motorists to visit Hindman and Knott County with clear directions to attractions. In Monday night’s Hindman City Council meeting Mayor Janice Jarrell said the Transportation Department named four attractions, Historic Hindman, Appalachian Artisan Center, Hindman Settlement School, and the Kentucky School of Craft. Jarrell noted that seven signs will be located near the intersections coming into Hindman. Other signs will be placed in the county.

The city council approved a resolution of the City of Hindman to show support for a new veterans hospital facility. Presently, veterans in the 29 county Fifth Congressional District has to travel to Lexington or out of state for medical attention. To establish a full service veterans hospital 45,477 signatures are needed.

The interlocal agreement with 911 was renewed for another term of two years.

The agreement allows the city to continue to use the Public Safety Answering Point at the KSP Hazard Post 13 to answer emergency call. The 911 fund will be used to pay for the services.
