City hears good news on grants

The Hindman City Council took several actions in Monday night’s meeting. Business included Kentucky Power Company resolution, Troublesome Creek Environmental Authority Memorandum of Agreement, second reading of the budget, and approval to remove mandatory 90- day probation period on anew employee.

The city’s utility franchise agreement with AEP has expired after 20 years. Basically, a city government and a utility company are legally required to enter into a contract that outlines certain requirements that must be met. Michael Lasslo of AEP said the council had to act on a municipal utility franchise agreement as the last contract between the city and the power company was at its expiration date. He noted that it is just a routine protocol.

Councilman Bob Young asked, “Our cost is what we pay for street lights that are in town, is that what this is?”
