Spring exhibit at Artisan Center

Spring is here and what better way of enjoying it than taking in art exhibits. Art is in the air abundantly in Hindman with Appalachian Artisan Center’s unique exhibits.

A most intriguing display sure to attract a wide range of spectators is “In the Interest of Beauty”. This debut exhibit sits in the windows of Cody Building Gallery featuring the works of Knott County professional photographer Natasha Raichel and Martin County artist Harvey Fannin.

Kevin Bloomencamp, AAC director, described the spring exhibit as three-in- one. Each of the artists will have their works on display and a collaboration of their works will be exhibited as well. Their work intertwines as a result of Raichel’s portrait photography being selected by Fannin as subjects for his portrait paintings. Three pieces that Fannin created from Raichel’s photography can be appreciated with her actual photograph pieces. Raichel elaborated on the connection between the two artists. “I sent a gallery of 40 photographs and three that inspired him are exhibited with my photographs he used.”

Along with Raichels’ self portrait photograph selected were her portraits of two other Knott Countians, Hillary Kelley and Cheyenne Reynolds. Fannin does a style of artwork called grid paintings as was used with the portraits of the three young ladies.
