Knott County Central honored their seniors and prepared for the upcoming District and Regional tournaments that begin this week. Both the girls and boys teams enter tournament play with high expectations and it all begins with District play this week at Jenkins.
The KCCHS boys team honored 5 seniors. Zach Davis, Seth Adams, JT Campbell, Trey Ambur- gey and Matt Bentley will all graduate and be missed next year.
The Lady Patriots only have two seniors, but both are long time starters and huge contributors. Both players leave with over 1000 points scored in their career. Sasha Pike and Kelsie Jacobs will leave huge holes in the line up next season.
The Knott County girls closed out the season with a 66-37 win over Owsley County. Knott County took the lead early and led by 8 after the first quarter, holding a 33 point halftime advantage and coasting to the 66-37 win.
Paige Slone led Knott County with 16. Kennedy King had a nice game and scored 13. Hillary Ratliff joined Slone and King in double digits with 12 points. Kelsie Jacobs scored 8, Sasha Pike-8, Hailey Short-6 and Emily Lewis scored 3.
The Knott County Central boys split their last two games of the regular season as they whipped Estill County, but lost at the last second on the road at Buckhorn.
Knott County ran their record to 23-4 as they turned back Estill County 60-43. The second quarter proved to be the difference as the Patriots outscored Estill County 28-3 to pull away.
Camron Justice paced Knott County with 13. Zach Davis added 10, Seth Adams-11, Simon Christon-2, Evan Hall-12, Chance Cornett-6 and Blake Shrum – 6.
The Patriots dropped their final regular season game on the road in a thriller at Buckhorn. Knott County led for most of the game but the Wildcats kept it close and sneaked a 57-55 win on a last second tip-in.
Camron Justice paced Knott county with 21. Zach Davis- added 11, Seth Adams-9, Evan Hall-8, Chance Cornett-4 and Simon Christon scored 2.
Everyone come out and support your favorite teams in tournament play. The 53rd District will be held at Jenkins high school this week. The 2012 girls regional tournament will be at Breathitt County and Knott County Central will host the 2012 boys 14th region tournament.
