The 2011-12 Knott County Central High School boys’ basketball team has been recognized among the state leaders in numerous scoring categories. According to statistics complied by the KHSAA (Kentucky High School Athletic Association), they rank in the top 15 in nine of the 12 major offensive and defensive categories. All stats are current for the week beginning January 22.
Justice’s 22.6 points per game ranks 5th in the state in scoring. His free throw percentage of 87.9 is good for second in the state behind the 89.1 of Jacob Scott from Webster County. The 2.5 three pointers that Justice averages per game ranks 8th in Kentucky.
Knott Central as a team ranks 12th in the state with 67.1 points per game. Their smothering defense is also recognized as 12th in the state, holding opponents to 50.4 points per game. That 16.7 win margin is 5th statewide.
The Patriots (18-2) have enjoyed a dominant season under head coach B.B. King and are being led by freshman sharpshooter Cameron Justice (22.6), senior guard Zach Davis (14.1), and freshman big man Evan Hall (10.3).
The Patriots’ offensive force can be a headache for opposing teams. Their field goal percentage (50.1) ranks fourth in the state. The team is among the top free throw leaders, connecting on 69.4 percent, 13th in the state. Only one other team statewide is better in knocking down the long ball, Louisville Trinity at 41.2 percent. The Pats three-point percentage is 40.3 percent.
