Victim of Caney shooting listed critical but stable

A Caney resident was shot Saturday, January 7, inside his home located beside the former Caney Elementary School.

Timothy Lance Sammons, age 40, of Pippa Passes was inside his house at 7 p.m. when an individual broke into the home by kicking out a glass door , then discharged multiple rounds from his weapon. According to Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer Tony Watts, the individual was disguised with a mask and fled the scene in an unknown direction. Sammons was taken by Trans-Star Ambulance Service to a landing zone where he was transported by LifeNet to Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. As of presstime, his condition was listed as critical but stable. The shooting is under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.

Family members tell the Times that Timothy Sammons, who goes by Lance, jumped in front of his father when the shots were fired. As a result, Sammons received three gunshot wounds to both his shoulders and abdomen. Upon arrival at Saint Mary’s, he was taken into emergency surgery and has since been kept sedated as his blood pressure and temperature fluctuates.
